Four County Players is Central Virginia's
oldest, continuously-operating community theatre. Since 1973 the Players have delighted audiences with a full range of
theatre experiences. Located in a rural area, the theatre is the
cultural hub for the community. Serving as both a cultural and
educational center, the Players are well known for their masterful musicals
and magical productions of Shakespeare. In collaboration with the
Barboursville Vineyards, audiences are enchanted with evenings of classic
Shakespeare performed in the beauty of the vineyards and the majesty of the
historic ruins of Governor Barbour's mansion, Virginia's first governor.
We are a nonprofit, volunteer
community theater dedicated to:
-
Stimulating and encouraging interest in the arts;
-
Supporting charitable scholastic pursuits in the
performing arts;
-
Providing for the coordination of the activities of
those who are interested in the arts by providing the opportunity
for workshops;
-
Identifying and nurturing individual talents in the
arts, while establishing standards for quality presentations;
-
Promoting the artistic, cultural and educational
welfare of the citizens of the area.
Four County Players provides a real
hands-on theater experience for both amateurs and professionals of all ages
in all aspects of our theatrical productions - musicals, plays and concerts.
Our experienced staff and volunteers bring expertise that encompasses all
areas of acting, directing, stage managing, costumes, makeup, set design and
construction, lighting, sound and publicity.
We encourage the participation of anyone,
of any age, interested in the theater arts to join us and learn under our
apprenticeship program.
For over 32 years we have provided quality
entertainment to our patrons while we train and nurture our local talent.
We welcome your participation as a
volunteer or as an apprentice or as a contributor. Come and make new friends
and have memorable experiences as a member of Four County Players.
